Managing Editor
As Managing Editor of the Cuenticos project at Dominican Writers Association, I served as both architect and steward of its creative vision.
I developed the original prompt and crafted the public call for submissions, inviting voices from across the diaspora to contribute their personal narratives. My role extended into careful curation, reading through submissions, and selecting standout creative essays that spoke to the heart of our cultural experience.
Beyond editorial selection, I structured and led a reading committee, assigning editors to ensure each writer received thoughtful, collaborative feedback.
Through this process, I shaped the Cuenticos series into a collection of five anthologies, each one a living testament to the rich, multifaceted stories of Dominican identity.
My work combined editorial precision with community-centered leadership, fostering a space where emerging and established voices could be celebrated side by side.
Anthology
Cuenticos is a five-part digital anthology series published by the Dominican Writers Association between 2020 and 2024. The project centers creative nonfiction from Dominican writers across the diaspora, exploring themes of family, language, love, memory, and migration. Through open calls for submissions, Cuenticos gathered intimate, personal essays that preserve and honor the everyday stories shaping Dominican identity. It stands as an archive of contemporary Dominican voices, offering readers a glimpse into the nuanced and varied experiences of the diaspora.
The #Cuenticos Project is an integral part of Yamberlie’s editorial work, providing a meaningful platform for Dominican writers in the U.S. to share their stories.
This initiative goes beyond publishing; it’s about honoring the diverse voices and experiences within the Dominican community. Through her work on these chapbooks and anthologies, Yamberlie has helped shape narratives that explore cultural identity, generational trauma, and the everyday realities of Dominican families.
These collections create an important space for reflection, healing, and celebrating the strength and resilience of the diaspora.
